Monday, 05/10 – (08:30am - 10:10am and 10:30am - 12:10am)

Abstract The goal of this talk is to present some of the best practices in service implementation used to build robust and flexible SOA based solutions. The focus of the talk is to explore the synergy between Service Oriented architecture (SOA) and Business Process Management (BPM) concepts, showing how such concepts can be employed in an integrated way to build Information Systems that are capable of supporting the requirements of the current complex IT environments. The topic "Service Orientation" will be broadly covered, including from its basic architecture to the development of business process based on service compositions. The covered topics include:
- SOA fundamentals and Web services technology
- Evolution from traditional enterprise architectures to SOA
- Design patterns for SOA
- Discussion on the necessity of an integrated development process consisting of architecture, business process, people, systems, information, and infrastructure.

Author Paulo F. Pires is a Professor of the Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil where he participates as a researcher of the Distributed and Software Engineering Research Group. He has received the Doctor of Science degree from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2002. During the year 2000 he worked as visiting researcher at the CLIP lab in University of Maryland (USA). His main research interests include infrastructures for Web service composition, model driven development, SOA, and application of Software Engineering techniques in the development of ubiquitous and pervasive computing. Dr. Pires has participated in several cooperative industry–university projects as well as research projects in those areas, with funding from several International and Brazilian government agencies, including CNPq, CAPES, FINEP, FAPERJ, and Fundación Carolina (Spain).
